Tropical Storm Labuyo (international name: Utor) left a trail of destruction in various parts of Northern Philippines, leaving two people dead, one injured and 11 missing.
Labuyo made landfall in the wee hours of Monday morning in Casiguran, Aurora, the hardest hit by strong winds, heavy rains, swelling rivers, toppled electric and communication posts.
The strong typhoon exited the country Tuesday morning and is now moving towards West Philippine Sea, according to the state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The two casualties were Joemar Salicong,22, who was buried in a landslide in Irisan, Baguio City; and Reynaldo Dela Cruz, 53, who was drowned in Nueva Vizcaya.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the preliminary assessment of damaged infrastructures and agriculture crops was pegged at P57.4 million.
A total of 2,079 houses were damaged in Regions 1, 2, 5 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The typhoon had also affected a total of 27,539 families or 137,374 persons in 216 barangays in 54 municipalities and 3 cities, mostly in Northern Luzon.
Of these, a total of 5,801 families or 27,727 persons were brought to 83 evacuation centers.
As of Tuesday morning, a total of 25 roads and 13 bridges were destroyed in Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR. The NDRRMC said 13 power outages and 3 incidents were reported in North and Central Luzon.
At various ports, there were a total of 1,158 passengers stranded, including 14 vessels.
According to Governor Gerardo Noveras of the much-affected province of Aurora, some of the residents there lost their homes and livelihood. The province, he said, is currently isolated as most major roads leading to the province are impassable due to flooding and landslides.
The towns of Casiguran, Dilasag and Dinalungan were all placed under a state of calamity due to extensive damage from Typhoon Labuyo.
