A powerful typhoon slammed most parts of Luzon on Saturday, prompting storm alerts in more than 20 provinces and placing disaster response teams and civil defense offices on standby.
Typhoon Lando (international code name: Koppu) made landfall over Aurora province with a maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 220 km/h, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) prepared at least 196, 737 food packs for families most affected by the impacts of the typhoon and allotted P18 million funds for relief and disaster response.
Aurora Province remains under signal number 4. Those under signal number 3 are: Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Ifugao and Northern Luzon including Polilio Islands.
Areas that remained under signal number 2 are: Cagayan, including Calayan and Babuyan group of Islands, Benguet, Mt Province, Kalinga, Apayao, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, rest of Quezon, and Metro Manila.
Signal number 1 is in effect in the following areas: Zambalez, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Camarines Norte, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Batanes.
Typhoon “LANDO” is now over Nueva Ecija and is about to threaten the Cordillera Region.
- Estimated rainfall amount is from heavy to intense within the 500 km diameter of the typhoon.
- Fisherfolk are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao.
